An Umbra Story
The reconciliation of a person with their memories and fantasies, the mourning and its recognition, the realm of dreams celebrate in various ways the uncanny presences that we sense with desire and concern in equal measure.
Angelos Papadopoulos’s new choreographic work comes as a continuation of his research around possible points of proximity and encounter. This time, they examine the encounter with the inner mystery and with something pending to be resolved. In this duet, the Latin word umbra [shadow] means a lingering, indistinct presence. The work imagines an ineffable dialogue, a paradoxical love story, a series of anarchic synapses, imitations and deviations, with a sense of humor, Brazilian jiu jitsu movements, gazes and tensions, and with John Coltrane’s “Blue Train” haunting the space.
