The kids
In September 2022, Angelos graduated with honours from MRes Choreography & Performance, University of Roehampton (London), where he was awarded a scholarship. His thesis ‘We Need to Talk about Father’ was and continues to this day to ‘run’ as an extended intercultural research practice in which Angelos studies the notion of fatherhood and dance. This practice aims to strengthen the dual relationship between father or male guardian and child in positive terms through narrative and symbolic techniques, dance therapy axes and artistic actions. This practice was presented in performance form at the Lycabettus Festival 2022 and Stray Art Festival 2022, in collaboration with Daphne Pantazopoulou. ‘We Need to Talk about Father’ artistic practice was created. Interviews, dance, extra-verbal pathways, movement games are main tools to explore the father figure.
Then, Angelos Papadopoulos decides to deepen his research by inviting his own father to participate in a performance with him. After an invitation to participate in ‘Art, a silent revolution’ programme (Athens Conservatory, 20223, Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family’s), ‘The Kids’ was formed and presented. In this performance, Angelos literally and figuratively meets Takis Papadopoulos, his biological father. In 2024, Angelos Papadopoulos was commissioned by Flux Laboratory to present a new version of ‘The Kids’ in ‘ART & SCIENCE MICROFORUM III – Body & Emotional Intelligence’.
